Background of the Study
Digital storytelling has emerged as a powerful pedagogical tool in literature and creative writing education, enabling students to craft and share narratives using multimedia elements. At Taraba State University, Jalingo, incorporating digital storytelling into creative writing courses is being explored to enhance students’ narrative skills, creativity, and engagement. This method combines traditional storytelling techniques with digital media such as video, audio, images, and interactive text to create compelling narratives that resonate with modern audiences (Ibrahim, 2023). Digital storytelling not only allows students to experiment with narrative structure and character development but also enables them to present their work in innovative and visually appealing formats. Research indicates that integrating multimedia into creative writing curricula can improve literary skills and foster deeper emotional connections with the content (Chinwe, 2024). Additionally, digital storytelling encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and self-expression, all of which are essential for developing a robust creative writing ability. The approach also democratizes the creative process by providing accessible tools that enable even novice writers to produce professional-quality digital narratives. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of digital storytelling in teaching creative writing by analyzing its impact on student engagement, writing proficiency, and overall creative output. By leveraging interactive platforms and multimedia resources, the research seeks to transform traditional writing instruction into a dynamic, participatory learning experience that prepares students for the digital age.

Statement of the Problem
Traditional creative writing courses at Taraba State University often rely on conventional methods that emphasize text-based assignments and classroom discussions, which may not fully engage the digital generation (Ibrahim, 2023). Many students find these approaches limiting, as they do not provide opportunities for incorporating multimedia elements that can enhance narrative expression. The lack of interactive and visually stimulating storytelling methods can result in reduced creativity and engagement, hindering students’ ability to effectively convey their ideas. Although digital storytelling offers a promising alternative by integrating multimedia with narrative writing, its application in creative writing curricula remains underutilized due to technical challenges, limited access to digital tools, and a lack of faculty expertise in multimedia integration (Chinwe, 2024). This inadequacy prevents students from developing a comprehensive skill set that combines traditional literary techniques with modern digital competencies. The study seeks to address these issues by investigating how digital storytelling can be effectively implemented to enhance creative writing instruction. It will evaluate the impact of multimedia narratives on students’ writing quality, engagement levels, and overall creative development. The research will also identify barriers to effective implementation and propose strategies for integrating digital storytelling into the curriculum, ensuring that the approach supports diverse learning styles and fosters innovation in creative expression.

Objectives of the Study
• To assess the impact of digital storytelling on creative writing skills.
• To evaluate improvements in student engagement and creative output.
• To identify challenges and propose strategies for effective multimedia integration.

Research Questions
• How does digital storytelling enhance creative writing skills?
• What improvements in student engagement are observed with multimedia narratives?
• What challenges hinder effective implementation, and how can they be overcome?

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it demonstrates the potential of digital storytelling to transform creative writing education by merging traditional literary techniques with modern multimedia, thereby enhancing student creativity and engagement (Ibrahim, 2023). The findings will provide valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers at Taraba State University, promoting innovative teaching strategies that prepare students for contemporary communication challenges (Chinwe, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the use of digital storytelling in teaching creative writing at Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State. It focuses exclusively on multimedia integration and does not extend to other creative arts.
